IHMC Atlas Localization Test
IHMC Atlas Localization Test Using localization we are able to send a single footstep plan to the robot telling it to walk over the cinder blocks and repeat without adjusting any footsteps. In this video we show atlas walking over and back 10 times without any operator involvement.

IHMC Robotics OpenHouse 2014
To celebrate the fifth annual National Robotics Week, IHMC's Robotics researchers welcomed the public on April 10th for an Open House event in hopes of inspiring young people to seek out careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The family-friendly event encouraged scientific discovery through hands-on activities, challenges, and demonstrations while providing the opportunity to learn about robots from IHMC's researchers and educators.

Roughly 900 people from the local community walked through the lab during the open house, including 475 children.

The GFE robot sits on a box and is supposed to manipulate the steering wheel (which is comically large for testing purposes). There was a bug in the specification of the desired configurations of the hands with respect to the steering wheel, resulting in the behavior shown in the video.

First test with the safety harness, of the Tbot 1.0 we built at IHMC in Florida (www.ihmc.us). Shows the robot changing from "Balancing" mode to "A-frame" mode to "Car" mode and then back up to Balancing mode. Recorded in early September, 2007.

IHMC VRC Highlights - 28Feb2013
This video shows the latest progress of the IHMC DARPA Robotics Challenge team. It focuses heavily on walking capabilities, but also includes some other developments such as multi-contact balance and steering wheel control. In the walking work, we tried to address a variety of challenges to bipedal locomotion that might be encountered during a disaster response. These include: sloped terrain, uneven terrain, gaps, and stairs.

30 Degree of Freedom robot Climbing Steep Stairs - IHMC Robotics - DARPA Robotics Challenge
A 30 DoF simulated test robot climbing stairs with a rise of 35 cm and a tread of only 15 cm at a rate of 7.9 seconds per ten steps. Stairs this steep disallow the use of the full foot polygon to balance on a step by CoP placement, forcing us to focus on the use of angular momentum and improved weight distribution algorithms for balance control. In addition, combined ground reaction force control and foot orientation control is necessary, where the orientation of the foot is constrained by the line contact with the step.
