Team ViGIR - DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials - Hose Task - 12/2013

Florian, a new humanoid robot, is performing rescue tasks under supervision of a human operator, which assists the robot in perception, planning and action. Communications between the human operator and robot are restricted.

This video shows this Human/Robot interaction during the DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials in December 2013 as Florian attempts to connect a fire hose to a wye.

Eighteen teams comprising the VRC winners with ATLAS robots, six other DARPA-funded teams developing and building their own custom platforms, and self-funded teams competed in the DRC Trials at the Miami International Speedway in December 2013.

MIT DRC Team's preparation for the DRC Trials (Dec 2013) This video is an overview of the MIT DRC Team's capability in advance of the Dec 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials in Homestead, Florida.

In the Trials we finished in 4th place (out of 16 teams) and received funding to continue our research efforts until the DRC Finals in Dec 2014.

DRC-Hubo falls off the ladder during DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials

DRC-Hubo performed admirably during the ladder task in the DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials, doing the best of any American team by successfully climbing 8 out of 9 steps... and then this happened.

(Technical explanation: poor situational awareness was the culprit. The operating crew mistakenly assumed the right hand was grasping the rail because shadow and a low-resolution, wide angle camera made it difficult to observe the hand.
