Robonaut Supports Telemedicine Advances

Robonaut Supports Telemedicine Advances
NASA is always investigating new uses for one of the world's most advanced humanoid robots, Robonaut 2 (R2.) Working with Dr. Zsolt Garami from Houston Methodist Research Institute, R2 was put through the paces to prove its use as a device enabling telemedicine, or the use of electronic communications to conduct medical procedures. After some quick training, an R2 teleoperator was able to guide the robot and perform an ultrasound scan on a medical mannequin.

@FRC1592 & @FRC801 #AskAstro Question 2 - Robonaut
We are FIRST Robotics Teams 1592 and 801. We are in the robotics lab of Cocoa High School in Florida, designing and building identical robots together in coopertition. What's it like having a fellow astronaut who's a robot?

Go Bionic Tigers! Go Horsepower!

Question written for the astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS). Made for the Google Hangout on Feb 22, 2013.

Robonaut

Robonaut
Robonaut is a humanoid robot designed by the Robot Systems Technology Branch at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Robonaut project seeks to develop and demonstrate a robotic system that can function as an EVA astronaut equivalent. Robonaut jumps generations ahead by eliminating the robotic scars (e.g., special robotic grapples and targets) and specialized robotic tools of traditional on-orbit robotics.

NASA Robonaut Humanoid Space Robot

NASA Robonaut Humanoid Space Robot
This is a clip from Doing the Dirty Work: Robots for Hire documenting the NASA Robonaut. The robot is an extravehicular telepresence astronaut designed to use human tools to assist in space duties such as repairs, upgrades, and emergency activity. Its hand is the most dexterous human-like robot hand to-date and can perform many delicate tasks similar to what a person can do. Its eyes are binocular and enable depth-perception just like human eyes.
