Meet NASA's 'Superhero' Valkyrie Robot

Meet NASA's 'Superhero' Valkyrie Robot
Meet Valkyrie, NASA JSC's DARPA Robotics Challenge humanoid robot. Learn more:

At 62 and 275 pounds, Valkyrie has detachable arms, mounted cameras and sonar sensors that would make it ideal for work in disaster-stricken areas.

No it's no vaklyrie Nasa's Robot. Its just Robonaut 2 Demonstration at Kennedy Space Center on first 2013. :D.

NASA has developed a robot that may be used to explore Mars before humans ever set foot on the red planet.

NASA's Valkyrie robot

NASA's Valkyrie robot
The newest humanoid robot from NASA just might be mistaken for a superhero.

The space agency's new Valkyrie a 6 foot 2 inch tall (1.9 meters) robot with a glowing NASA logo on its chest bears an uncanny resemblance to Marvel's superhero Iron Man, but this space age automaton was built for work, not comic book heroics. A team of engineers at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tex., designed and built Valkyrie in just nine months, according to press reports.

North American XB-70 Valkyrie SST

North American XB-70 Valkyrie SST
Courtesy NASA

Originally conceived as a supersonic bomber, the North American XB-70A Valkyrie instead became the world's largest experimental research aircraft, flying from September 21, 1964, until February 4, 1969.

Two experimental prototypes of the XB-70A were under construction when the bomber program was canceled. At the same time there was growing interest in an American supersonic transport (SST), and the Valkyrie seemed a perfect testbed for SST research.

NASA Previews Orion Spacecrafts First Flight Test

NASA Previews Orion Spacecrafts First Flight Test
During a NASA Television media briefing from the agencys Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NASA officials discussed the completed construction of the new Orion spacecraft and details of its first test flight, scheduled for Dec. 4. During the 4.5-hour flight, called Exploration Flight Test-1, Orion will travel farther than any crewed spacecraft has gone in more than 40 years, before returning to Earth at speeds near 20,000 mph and generating temperatures up to 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Behold The Future (E011 NASA's Superhuman Robot)

Behold The Future (E011 NASA's Superhuman Robot)
An UPHIGH Production. NASA's Valkyrie DRC 'Superhuman Robot'.
NASA has created a robot for DARPA's upcoming Robotics Challenge Trials. The Valkyrie is a 6-foot-2-inch humanoid machine with detachable arms, sonar sensors, mounted cameras, and a glowing Tony Stark-esque circle in the middle of its chest. The space agency says it's mobile and dexterous enough to enter disaster zones to provide search and rescue functions.

NASA Astronauts Conduct Spacewalk on ISS

NASA Astronauts Conduct Spacewalk on ISS
Clad in U.S. spacesuits, Expedition 41 Flight Engineers Reid Wiseman of NASA and Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency conducted a spacewalk outside the International Space Station Oct. 7 to relocate a failed cooling pump and to install a power cable device designed to provide backup electrical capability to the stations rail car system. The spacewalk was the 182nd in support of station assembly and maintenance and the first for both Wiseman and Gerst.

Valkyrie manipulation planning

Valkyrie manipulation planning
An envisaged planning sequence for the NASA Valkyrie robot. Given the sensed scene, our algorithms plan a hypothetical planning sequence to pick some objects from a table and to drop them into a bucket.

This pairs with the same planning sequence for an Boston Dynamics Atlas Robot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6QVl2nR04s
Which can be then demonstrated on the real robot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOb5JN9N9PI

The transfer of the PLANNING sequence to the NASA robot could be done with no modification of the original code.
