Global Precipitation Satellite Launched on This Week @NASA - HD
The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission's Core Observatory launched from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center on February 27, Eastern Standard Time. The joint NASA and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency effort uses the Core Observatory as the anchor of a network of international satellites designed to provide next-generation observations of rain and snow worldwide every three hours. Data from the mission will help study climate change, freshwater resources, and natural hazards such as floods, droughts, and hurricanes.

MAVEN will take critical measurements of the Martian upper atmosphere to investigate how loss of the atmosphere to space impacted the history of water on the planet's surface. The agency celebrated the one year anniversary of Curiosity's landing on Mars with live events from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory -- featuring rover team members.
NASA's next mission to Mars, the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution or MAVEN, will study the Red Planet's upper atmosphere for clues about what existed there before the atmospheric loss occurred.
After four years as NASA's Deputy Administrator, Lori Garver is leaving the agency to become General Manager of the Air Line Pilots Association.
A fireball from a kilonova, a new kind of stellar blast, spotted by the Hubble Space Telescope in a galaxy almost 4 billion light-years from Earth, is the strongest evidence yet that short-duration gamma ray bursts happen when two small, super-dense stellar objects come together.
Six days after launching from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan, the automated Kounotori4 H-II Transfer Vehicle or HTV-4, met up with The International Space Station, was captured with the station's robotic arm by the Expedition 36 crew aboard the ISS and was installed on the station's Harmony module.
NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden recently toured Orbital Sciences Corporation's Satellite Manufacturing Facility near Phoenix, Arizona to check out The Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 or OCO-2 satellite.
The first completed liquid hydrogen tank barrel segment for the core stage of NASA's Space Launch System heavy-lift rocket has been rolled off the production line at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.
NASA's SOFIA airborne observatory has returned to Palmdale, California from a two-and-a-half week campaign to study celestial objects from a vantage point in the southern hemisphere.

During a press briefing at NASA headquarters, scientists announced that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has officially left our solar bubble and has reached interstellar space.
The Space 2013 Conference in San Diego featured the presentation of a paper co-authored by NASA Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations, Bill Gerstenmaier that relates past, present and proposed NASA activities off the Earth to their importance for the Earth.
The traditional change of command ceremony took place on the ISS with Expedition 36 Commander Pavel Vinogradov passing the reins to fellow cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin -- Commander of Expedition 37.
Orbital Sciences Corporation's Cygnus cargo craft is scheduled for a September 22 arrival at the station -- based on a September 17 launch aboard the company's Antares rocket from Wallops Flight Facility.
NASA Associate Administrator for Education, Leland Melvin was on hand for Rockets 2 Racecars at Richmond International Speedway to help rev up public interest about NASA missions, STEM education -- and the shared science between NASA and the auto racing industry.

In his keynote address at the Aviation 2013 conference in Los Angeles, NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden shared a new strategic vision for the agency's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate designed to help address looming challenges in global air transportation.
While on the west coast the Administrator also stopped by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to check out preparations for two Earth-observing missions scheduled for launch next year.
On Mars, NASA's Curiosity rover captured the images in this animated sequence of the planet's two moons in motion -- with Phobos, the larger moon, passing in front of the other moon, Deimos.
A NASA study on affects to our climate from wildfires and other air pollution sources is underway.
During an August 16 spacewalk outside the International Space Station, Flight Engineers Fyodor Yurchikhin and Alexander Misurkin -- wearing Russian Orlan spacesuits -- installed equipment for the arrival of a new Russian module and completed prep work for the installation later this year of an optical telescope.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden put a new spin on teaching at the 17th annual GLOBE Partners Meeting at the University of Maryland University College.
A flexible woven fabric heat shield is being tested at Ames Research Center.
NASA and the Navy invited the media to check out key testing of splashdown recovery operations for the agency's Orion spacecraft at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia.
Sierra Nevada Corporation's Dream Chaser flight vehicle went through a series of ground tests on the concrete runways at Dryden Flight Research Center.
NASA's Associate Administrator for Space Technology Mike Gazarik was the keynote speaker at this year's Small Satellite Conference at the Utah State University in Logan on August 12.
Remote plant production technology for NASA's deep space habitat prototype was demonstrated at Kennedy Space Center by student developers from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Mars Pact with France Signed | This Week @NASA
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden and Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of France's National Center of Space Studies or CNES, signed an agreement for cooperation on the lander for NASA's future InSight mission to Mars. InSight will probe deep into the subsurface of Mars to understand the evolutionary formation of rocky planets, including Earth. A CNES instrument onboard the lander is designed to measure seismic waves -- which provide clues about the earliest stages of the planet's formation.

Honda Miimo Robot Lawn Mower - RobotMower crashes into a Stationary Object !! - This is no Asimo



I love the idea that the future will be filled with labour saving Robots. I have the highest hopes & respect for Honda with what they have already done and are doing with their Asimo concept Robot. Here Honda Robotics have released new for 2013 an Automatic Robotic Lawn Mower.
It was on show at The gadget Show 2013 and to be frank the demonstration was poor.
