Newest Honda ASIMO Robot Moves Like A Human

Newest Honda ASIMO Robot Moves Like A Human
The Asimo's latest edition, unveiled on April 16, can run briskly, climb stairs with ease, dance like Travolta, kick a ball and jump up in down in what can only be described as a robot tantrum.

The 4 feet tall, 115-pound robot now features five dextrous fingers on each hand with force feedback sensors. As we saw in its first North America demonstration on Wednesday, ASIMO can pick up a sealed container filled with orange juice, unscrew the top, pick up a paper up with its other hand, pour the juice and carefully set both cup and container back on the table.

Debris Disk

Debris Disk
A study by NASA scientists sounds a cautionary note in interpreting rings and spiral arms as signposts for new planets. Thanks to interactions between gas and dust, a debris disk may, under the right conditions, produce narrow rings on its own, no planets needed. Many young stars known to host planets also possess disks containing dust and icy grains, particles produced by collisions among asteroids and comets also orbiting the star.

HobbyKing 250 mini racing quadcopter

HobbyKing 250 mini racing quadcopter
A 250 sized mini-quad for under ?

That's what HobbyKing claim for their 250 "racing" quadcopter and I have to admit that it's probably pretty good value for money if you want to get a foot in the door of the miniquad craze.

It's tough (although those feet *will* fall of when provoked) and it is good value but it's let down by a design that requires you to mount much of the hi-tech goodies on the outside -- where they're going to take some knocks and bangs.

The 3-bladed props are pretty frail (more-so than the 2-bladers) so points off for not providing at least one set of spares because you *will* break them very easily.

If you're using the KK2.1 board, make sure you dial the gains right down before you try the self-leveling mode because the stock settings will cause it to flip almost immediately.

Parrot's Jumping Sumo 'bot at CES 2014 | Engadget
Oh, and Parrot's got one more thing up its sleeve at tonight's CES Unveiled event, and while this one can't actually fly, it's still pretty damn neat. The company's calling it the "Sumo," for reasons that aren't immediately clear -- the "insectoid" label it's also tossing around seems a bit more appropriate, all said. The device is a two-wheeled terrestrial 'bot that's controlled via tablet or smartphone, using streaming video from a built-in camera.

Active Upper Limb Exoskeleton controlled by sEMG - MATLAB and Simulink Student Design Challenge
This video presents the project of an upper limb active exoskeleton that uses the surface electromyographic signals to do torque control and to amplify the user's physical capacities.
It uses Pneumatic Artificial Muscles as actuators for its excellent power to weight ratio and the system model is optimized using genetic algorithms from the MatLab Global Optimization Toolbox.

Experiments showed that the equipment is not only able to increase the users mechanical force but it's also capable of improving the fatigue endurance.

NASA and GM Take a Giant Leap Forward in Robotics
NASA and General Motors are working together to accelerate development of the next generation of robots and related technologies for use in the automotive and aerospace industries.

Engineers and scientists from NASA and GM worked together through a Space Act Agreement at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston to build a new humanoid robot capable of working side by side with people. Using leading edge control, sensor and vision technologies, future robots could assist astronauts during hazardous space missions and help GM build safer cars and plants.

The two organizations, with the help of engineers from Oceaneering Space Systems of Houston, developed and built the next iteration of Robonaut.
