Hace tres aos Laura Ramrez sufri un accidente automovilstico y el diagnstico mdico fue una lesin completa medular, con imposibilidad de volver a caminar. En una revista conoci el exoesqueleto binico, un aparato porttil operado por bateras que posibilita pararse y caminar en superficies planas a pacientes con debilidad o parlisis de extremidades inferiores.
Se puso en contacto con los fabricantes, quienes la invitaron a realizar pruebas con el dispositivo en las instalaciones en California (Estados Unidos) y el resultado fue que era candidata a utilizarlo.
