DRC-Hubo performed admirably during the ladder task in the DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials, doing the best of any American team by successfully climbing 8 out of 9 steps... and then this happened.
(Technical explanation: poor situational awareness was the culprit. The operating crew mistakenly assumed the right hand was grasping the rail because shadow and a low-resolution, wide angle camera made it difficult to observe the hand.
